How to Wrap a Gift Card

There are so many times when the perfect gift for that loved one is a gift card, giving them the ability to pick out exactly what they want from their favorite retailer, or treat themselves to a meal at their favorite restaurant. And, while gift cards have a reputation for being unimaginative, the reality is that often, they’re exactly what the recipient wanted.

Now, keep in mind that a lot of the recipient’s reaction can come down to how the gift is presented. Simply handing a bare gift card can feel anticlimactic but wrapping it in wrapping paper makes it feel much more like a traditional present. And, if you want to wrap a gift card in a way that’s going to impress, we recommend making a wrapping paper envelope. As you will see, it’s actually a pretty simple process.

Step 1: Cut Your Wrapping Paper

First, you’ll want to roll out some wrapping paper on a flat and hard surface, with the decorative side facing down. Cut a 6x6 inch square. Make sure that you’re cutting a perfectly straight line, because jagged or uneven lines will make the gift card envelope look untidy and sloppy rather than nice and neat.

Step 2: Start Folding

Now, fold the bottom edge of the wrapping paper over to the top, allowing the two edges to meet. Then, make a 1-inch crease using your fingers, so that you have a rectangle that’s 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall. Using tape, secure the seams along the left and right edges of the envelope, going the entire length of each side so that there are no gaps where the edges are open.

Step 3: Make the Flap

Now, you have an envelope that you can stick your gift card inside of. But, there’s still one remaining step to completing the envelope, which is the top edge. Before putting in your gift card, you’ll want to fold the top crease down one half of an inch, ensuring that both the front and back edge are lined up just right, and create a crease by firmly pressing along the entire fold. Now, bend the back of the flap a little bit to place your gift card inside. Fold the flap forward again along the crease, and secure this seam with tape – or a sticker, if you wish. From there, you’re free to embellish as you so desire, with bows, ribbons, or anything else that makes your present really pop.

Give a Gift Card That “Wow” Factor with a Wrapping Paper Envelope

Not that there’s anything wrong with just handing someone a gift card, but making such a commonplace gift into a beautifully wrapped present can really offer that extra something that adds a festive flair. And, as you can see, wrapping a gift card with a wrapping paper envelope isn’t all that complicated, nor time-consuming. If you’re looking for the perfect wrapping paper and embellishments to add an aesthetic touch, make sure to explore the variety of eco-friendly, sustainable gift-wrapping supplies at Waterleaf Paper Co.
